DMETRI KAKMI was born to Greek parents in Turkey.
He is a writer, editor and writing tutor. His fictionalised memoir Mother Land was shortlisted for the New South Wales Premier’s Literary Awards in Australia; and is published in England and Turkey.
He edited the acclaimed children’s anthology When We Were Young. His essays and short stories appear in anthologies and journals.
Dmetri was the recipient of the Peter Blazey Fellowship in 2008.
Since going freelance, he tutors in writing and assesses manuscripts for Writers Victoria and other institutions.
His favourite writers are Georges Simenon, Anton Chekov and Flannery O’Connor. Outside of literature, Dmetri’s passions are fashion, film and archeology. He lives in Melbourne.
